Leuzinger named player of the year

MONROE - Monticello senior Courtney Leuzinger was named the Six Rivers East Conference Player of the Year recently.

Leuzinger also was named first-team all-conference as a pitcher after compiling an 18-7 record with a 3.48 ERA and 137 strikeouts. Leuzinger hit .548 with eight home runs and 31 RBI to lead the Ponies.

Monticello coach Duane Garrison said Leuzinger is the first player in the history of the Monticello softball program to be named the conference's player of the year.

Juda-Albany, the conference champion that made a run to the Division 4 state tournament, had five players named first-team all-conference. Juda-Albany freshman pitcher Nicki Becker was named first-team all-conference as was junior catcher Jessica Crull. The other Panthers named first-team all-conference were senior outfielder Molly Marass, senior outfielder Katlyn Steinmann and sophomore Alexis Goecks as a utility player.

Three other Monticello players were named first-team all-conference, senior Samantha DeVoe at catcher, senior Jordan Garrison as an infielder and senior Alyssah Kubly as an infielder. DeVoe hit .533 with three home runs and 17 RBI and Kubly hit .495 with four home runs and 18 RBI.

The other area first-team all-conference selections were Argyle senior Jenna Langmeier as an infielder, Pecatonica senior Emily Scoville as an infielder and Argyle senior Amber Dammen as an outfielder.

Juda-Albany had two players who received honorable mention, sophomore shortstop Sara Jordan and senior first baseman Cheyenne Ambler. Argyle also had two honorable mention selections, sophomore pitcher Kayla Butler-Paulson and senior Hannah Saalsaa.

The Ponies had two players named honorable mention, sophomore Jessie Garrison and senior Brooke Bidlingmaier. The Vikings' two honorable mention picks were senior Brooke Johnson and senior Sami Miller.



Capitol South

Five area players received Capitol South All-Conference accolades recently.

Marshall senior Morgan Hendricks was named the conference's player of the year, and Marshall junior Dany Gumz was the pitcher of the year.

Belleville senior Taylor Wallom was named first-team all-conference.

New Glarus had two players named second-team all-conference, sophomore Maya Kramer and sophomore Lydia Sprecher. Belleville junior Tara Hanna and sophomore Allie Kowalski were also second-team all-conference selections.



Rock Valley South

Beloit Turner dominated the Rock Valley South All-Conference awards.

Beloit Turner seniors Kelsie Packard and Tessa Mikkelson were named co-conference players of the year.

Beloit Turner, which made a run to the Division 2 state tournament, had six players named first-team all-conference.

Brodhead junior outfielder Amber Pickel was named first-team all-conference. Senior teammate Brooke Boegli and senior catcher Taylor Gerlach were named second-team all-conference.

Brodhead senior infielder Payton Wright and senior Erin Kloepping also received second-team honors.

Brodhead's Cassie McGuire and Alissa Hantke were named honorable mention all-conference.



SWAL

The Darlington softball team had two players named first-team Southwest Wisconsin All-Activities League in seniors Taylor Cox and Mariah Wiegel.

Senior teammate Chloe Hinderman was selected second-team all-conference.
