MONROE - Monroe senior Joe Latimer is one of five area basketball players who was selected to play in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game.
Latimer averaged 14.3 points per game and led the Cheesemakers to a 17-8 mark. He suffered an ACL injury, but was able to battle back and score nine points in a 59-56 loss to DeForest in the sectional semifinal.
Latimer will play in the boys all-star game as a member of the Division 2 South team June 21 at the University of Wisconsin Fieldhouse.
Other area players selected to play in the WBCA girls All-Star games include Brodhead senior Taylor Douglas, Darlington seniors Cassidy Chambers and Claire Scott, as well as New Glarus senior Alexis Hanson.
Douglas will play on the Division 3 South team. Chambers, Scott and Hanson were selected to play on the Division 4 South team.
Proceeds from the WBCA All-Star game go to the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer Fund. The MACC is a non-profit charitable organization formed to support research in the treatment and a cure for childhood cancer. The primary beneficiary of the MACC Fund is the Midwest Children's Hospital. More than 50 percent of the state's children with cancer are treated at the Midwest Center. The games have generated more than $1.9 million for the MACC Fund.
The 21st annual all-star banquet will be Thursday, June 13 at the Chula Vista Resort. At the banquet, awards will be presented to the academic all-state team, the 10 WBCA All-Star teams and special awards including Miss Basketball of Wisconsin.
The girls' games will be played June 14 at Just a Game Fieldhouse in the Wisconsin Dells. The Division 5 game will begin at 9 a.m. followed by the Division 1 game at 10:45 a.m. The Division 2 game will start at 12:30 p.m. and the Division 3 game is slated for 2:15 p.m. followed by the Division 4 game at 4 p.m.
