MILTON - Monroe junior Olivia Bobak had a two-run single in the seventh inning to propel the Cheesemaker softball team to a 5-4 win over Milton Tuesday.

It marks the second straight game the Cheesemakers have scored in the final inning to seal a win. Monroe (12-1, 5-0 Badger South) was coming off a 10-9 win over Fort Atkinson in eight innings Monday.

Monroe got a pair of insurance runs in the seventh that proved to be the difference. Senior Meredith Hose led off the seventh by coaxing a walk off of Milton's Erika Reis. Junior Hailey Betthauser then bunted for a single and Bobak followed with a clutch two-run single to give the Cheesemakers a 5-2 lead.

Monroe freshman Alyse Maurer pitched the final three innings to earned the save. With the game-tying run on second base, Maurer got a groundout to end the game.

"It's very stressful and emotional coming off a great win against Fort Atkinson," Monroe coach Joe O'Leksy said. "It would have been very easy coming off a tough game against Fort Atkinson to come out and lay an egg. We were not at our best. As Al Davis of the Oakland Raiders used to say, 'Just win baby!' We did that. It was ugly, but we won. I think it's a sign of a good team when you don't play your best and you still win."

It marked the fifth game in four days for the Cheesemakers. Bobak started and pitched four innings to get the win. She gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits, while striking out 10 and walking one. Maurer pitched three innings to get the save. She gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits, while striking out one and walking one.

"Olivia went as far as she could," O'Leksy said. "Bobak did the best she could to get us to that point. Our defense bent a little, but didn't break."

Monroe sophomore Grace Tostrud went 2-for-3 with a double.
