MADISON - Sugar River senior Jacob Larson kept his dream of wrestling for a state medal alive at the WIAA Division 2 state tournament Thursday.

Larson at 195 pounds pinned Lomira's Collin Feucht in 3 minutes, 1 second. Larson is the only one of three area wrestlers who competed in the preliminaries to advance. Four other area sectional-champion wrestlers in addition to Larson will be in action today with quarterfinal matches at the Kohl Center.

Brodhead-Juda senior Gavin Baade (182) had his chance for a second straight medal come up short. Wrightstown's Stetson Burmeister defeated Baade 3-1 in a preliminary match. Spring Valley's Ethan Hofacker defeated Black Hawk-Darlington junior Taylor Evenstad 7-2 in a preliminary match.

The sectional champion wrestlers in Division 2 quarterfinal matches today include Brodhead-Juda senior Brady Colden (170), Monroe junior Traiten Gorr (220) and Brodhead-Juda senior Logan Maurer (heavyweight). Larson also will wrestle in a quarterfinal match. In Division 3, Black Hawk-Darlington senior Zach Wolf (heavyweight) will wrestle in a quarterfinal match.

Colden (45-2), ranked No. 3 in the Wisconsin Wrestling Online Division 2 state poll, will wrestle Wrightstown senior Brandon Buechler (36-11). Gorr, ranked No. 2, will wrestle seventh-ranked Big Foot-Williams Bay senior Will Utesch, who he beat 2-0 at the Monroe Invitational earlier this season. Maurer (46-0), ranked No. 2, will wrestle fifth-ranked Wisconsin Lutheran junior Quinton Reid (48-1). Maurer defeated Reid in a third-place match at state last year, 4-2.

Wolf (42-3) will wrestle fifth-ranked Marksean senior Matt Stensrud (43-4). Wrestlers can assure themselves of a medal if they win a quarterfinal match.
