DARLINGTON - The Darlington-Cuba City's girls golf team's quest for an unbeaten season in dual matches came to an end with a 199-196 loss to Lancaster on Monday.

"We knew this would be a close match," Darlington-Cuba City coach Gary Ringen said.

Darlington junior Nellie Black and Cuba City senior Ali McCauley each shot 9-over-44's to lead the Redbirds.

"Ali is getting her game back to form," Ringen said.

McCauley birdied No. 7 and parred No. 8. Black recorded pars on No. 6 and No. 9. McCauley and Black shared medalist honors with Lancaster's Shannon Farrey (44).

"They have a pretty good rivalry going," Ringen said. "We will be going up against Lancaster three more times."

Darlington sophomore Shelby Poss finished with a 55 and freshman Naomi Black had a 56. Darlington junior Erica McComish rounded out the top five golfers with a 63. Lancaster's No. 5 golfer shot a 50, which sealed the three stroke edge.

"Shelby had five penalty strokes that hurt her score," Ringen said. "Unfortunately, we didn't get the breaks here or there."
