BRODHEAD - The Brodhead-Juda girls cross country team took second place at the Rock Valley South Conference meet Tuesday, finishing with 53 points - two ahead of Beloit Turner and five behind winner Palmyra-Eagle.
The Cardinals were led by their strong freshmen runners. Camilla Klar was third overall with a time of 17 minutes on the 4-kilometer course. Meg Duffield (17:34) was 10th, Jenna Klein (18:05) 13th and Jacque Conway (18:14) took 16th. Senior Shannon Klein capped the scoring by finishing 11th with a time of 17:47.
Orfordville Parkview's Melissa Harnack led the field with a time of 16:50.
On the boys side, Clinton took top honors, gathering 36 points. Beloit Turner (41) was second and Brodhead-Juda (83) finished third.
Senior Daniel Drewes paced the Cardinals with a time of 18:01 on the 5-kilometer course, which was good enough for eighth place overall. Junior Tate Harnack (18:06) was 11th, senior Kyle Lockhart (18:36) 15th, sophomore Carter Jorgenson (19:20) 22nd and sophomore Dillon Larson (19:53) finished 27th.
