HOLLANDALE - Pecatonica hosted Argyle - the game was scheduled to be in Argyle, but rain moved the game - to open the season series and the Vikings pitcher Milton Kuschner pitched like and ace. The senior held the Orioles to one hit in five innings, striking out five, and Pecatonica went on to win 7-0.

"It was a close game," Vikings head coach Jim Strommen said. "It was a one-run ball game going into the fifth inning."

Harley Demler hit an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth to put Pecatonica on top.

Orioles starter Nick Martin had Jake Rindy down in the count, one ball to two strikes, with men on and two outs when Rindy battled his way to a two RBI single. Chris Hendrickson followed with a second two-run single in the inning.

"Martin pitched really well. He was just one strike away from the game staying 1-0 and going into the sixth," Strommen said. "But we had a couple of clutch hits."

Lee Vlasak came in relief and shut down Argyle in the final two innings, striking out four and allowing just a walk.

Devin Jeglum was 2-for-3 for Pecatonica at the plate, and Kevin Berg collected Argyle's only hit, which came in the first inning.

Perhaps the most memorable moment in the game came when Argyle's Matt Cash was hit in the face by a pitch. The first pitch Cash saw against Kurschner was bunted foul, and the second pitch, a curveball, failed to break towards the plate and hit Cash between and eye and nose. Cash was taken to the hospital in an ambulance as a precaution.

In other action, Darlington lost to River Valley 7-3.
