Kuester powers Monroe

STOUGHTON - Senior Jaron Kuester went 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBI to power the Monroe High School baseball team to a 12-11 win over Stoughton in the regular-season finale on Monday.

Kuester's three-run home run in the sixth inning helped the Cheesemakers take a 12-6 lead.

Monroe improves to 12-12 overall and finishes 7-5 in the Badger South.

"That turned out to be huge," Monroe coach Dustin Huffman said. "It's the first time we have finished above .500 in the conference in a long time."

Monroe junior Hogan Edwards pitched four innings to get the win. He gave up three earned runs on five hits. Edwards struck out seven and walked just one. Monroe's Brad Ripp pitched one inning and gave up just one run while striking out two. Junior Hunter Weckerly pitched two innings in relief and gave up one earned run on two hits. He struck out two and walked one.

Monroe senior Garrett Gogin went 2-for-4 with a two-run triple. Senior Brent Edmunds finished 2-for-4 with a double, and Weckerly drove in two runs.

Monroe will host Clinton in a WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal on Thursday.
