NEW GLARUS - Tyler Kreklow made it hard for Argyle to get into its offense Friday night.

Kreklow scored a game-high 17 points to propel the Glarner Knights to a 62-35 win over Argyle. He had four steals in the first half to ignite a 17-2 second-quarter run for the Knights.

Kreklow had three steals in the second quarter. He had two steals and layups that extended the Knights' lead to 24-11 with 4 minutes, 33 seconds left in the second quarter. The Orioles committed 11 turnovers in the first half and the Knights capitalized in transition.

"We did a nice job of defending the paint, getting in the passing lanes and turning those steals into easy points," New Glarus coach Travis Sysko said.

New Glarus senior Ryan Zimmerman and Kreklow each scored on putbacks to help the Knights take an insurmountable 32-11 lead. The Knights (3-0) also took advantage of the seven offensive rebounds they had in the first half.

"He is as good as anyone with the ball in his hands since I have been here," Sysko said. "He is quick and when he gets that first step he opens up a lot of other things for us."

Argyle sophomore Christopher Severson scored 10 of his 17 points in the first half to lead the Orioles.

Zimmerman scored 14 points and sophomore Trae VandeBerg added 12 for the Knights.

"The 3-pointers were not falling, but we were able to score off some offensive rebounds," Sysko said.

New Glarus now prepares for a Capitol Conference crossover game at Columbus on Tuesday. The Knights are entering a stretch with four crossover games against Capitol North Conference teams.

"Hopefully, we are ready for that challenge," Sysko said. "We will see what we are made of."
