Kolasch fires 2-hitter as Ponies get a split

BELMONT - Monticello senior Lukas Kolasch had another dazzling performance on the mound to help the Ponies split a doubleheader against Belmont on Friday.

Kolasch pitched a two-hitter in the first game of the twinbill and struck out 14. In the second game, the Ponies lost a slugfest 18-16.

Monticello (3-7, 3-4 Six Rivers East) scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a short-lived 16-15 lead. The Braves rallied for three runs in the seventh to win the game.

"It was a crazy game," Monticello coach Jason Pinnow said. "There were a lot of errors and walks. There was no defense played."

SHULLSBURG - The Orioles are still searching for their first win on the diamond after Shullsburg-Benton swept a doubleheader.

The Orioles (0-7) managed just three total hits in the two losses.

Shullsburg-Benton scored 10 runs in the fourth inning of the first game to put the game away.

Sophomore Alec Treuthardt hit a home run for the Orioles. Treuthardt pitched three innings and gave up 11 runs (five earned) on three hits. He struck out one and walked two.

Argyle senior Kevin Flannery pitched two innings in relief and gave up 10 earned runs on seven hits.

Argyle freshman Colton Ploessl pitched the nightcap. He gave up 10 earned runs on 15 hits. Ploessl struck out seven and walked just one.
