NEW GLARUS - Evonne Strahm scored a team-high 14 points to propel the New Glarus girls basketball team to a 55-38 win over Waterloo Tuesday.

New Glarus (5-9, 2-2 Capitol South) had a balanced scoring attack with three players in double figures. In addition to Strahm, both junior Vanessa Narveson and junior Tamara Elzen scored 10 points. Elzen made two of the Glarner Knights' three 3-pointers.

"It gives us confidence going into the game against Wisconsin Heights," New Glarus coach Megan Scheele said. "Every conference game is important. It's nice to get a win on your home floor."

The Knights started in a 1-3-1 press and had success forcing turnovers. Scheele had the Knights switch to a man-to-man defense midway through the second quarter.

"Our pressure defense had them make some bad decisions," Scheele said.

The Knights made 12 of 18 free throws. New Glarus will play at Wisconsin Heights Friday.
