NEW GALRUS - Senior Maeci Rosslein racked up 44 digs to lead the Glarner Knights to a sweep of the Blue Jays Tuesday night.

New Glarus (7-12, 5-3 Capitol South) defeated Cambridge 25-19, 25-23, 26-24.

"Cambridge was really good on defense," New Glarus coach Casey Boatman said. "We had a hard time putting them away. Our serving was aggressive tonight and that helped."

New Glarus junior Mandi Sargent had a team-high eight kills and three blocks. Senior Taylor Johnson notched five aces and senior Alaina Legler had seven assists.

"We are definitely playing our best volleyball of the year," Boatman said. "You can see the growth we have made since the season started. We are hoping to get better as the season goes on."

Monticello 3, Argyle 2

ARGYLE - The Orioles' penchant for cold starts in the first game has Argyle coach Shelby Rideout searching for answers.

Monticello defeated Argyle 25-11, 25-17 and looked to be on the verge of a sweep. However, the Orioles stormed back and won the third and fourth games 25-17, 25-23 to force a decisive Game 5.

Argyle (9-14, 5-5 Six Rivers East) got rolling in the second and third games.

"They got fired up," Rideout said. "Our passing was much better in the second and third games."

The Ponies jumped out to a 9-1 lead in Game 5 and cruised to a 15-9 win.

"There was no coming back after that," Rideout said. "We battled back, but it was too little too late.

"We have the habit of starting out slow in the first game. "We couldn't execute anything on offense. We were slow on defense. Nothing was clicking at all. I don't know what it is. It's a habit that needs to stop."

Monticello senior Jordyn Kubly had a match-high 16 kills. Junior Clare Bruns had 32 assists for the Ponies. Monticello sophomore Paige Dilley had six aces and junior Marissa Berg added five blocks.

The Orioles were led by junior Kim Pink (14 kills, five blocks) and senior Kayla Ostby (31 assists).

"Kim Pink dominated the net," Rideout said. "It's the best match I have seen her play."

Rachel Tollakson had 23 digs and sophomore Jenna Langmeier added 22 digs. Junior Lizzy Ritschard delivered four aces.

Pecatonica 3, Albany 1

PECATONICA - The Pecatonica volleyball team fought through some early struggles, rallying to a four-game win over Albany.

The Vikings won 25-23, 19-25, 25-20, 25-21.

Pecatonica coach Cher Schliem said her team came out strong early but lost their momentum midway through the second game.

The loss in momentum caused the Vikings to lose their bump-set-spike rhythm, she said. However, toward the end of the second game, Schliem said the team fought out of the rough stretch.

"That second game was frustrating to watch," she said. "I'm sure it was frustrating to play.

"The third and fourth games ... they were dog fights. We had some really nice blocks from Julia Meyer. Ashley Johnsen, her hitting came on there as well. (The team) got into an offensive rhythm and the momentum swung around their way."

The Vikings (5-6, Six Rivers East) were led by senior Michelle Francois who racked up 38 digs to go along with 23 assists. Fellow senior Lizzy Britt led the team in kills with nine to go along with five aces, and Meyer led the team in blocks with six.

Albany senior Kirstie Kauk led the Comets (2-7) with eight kills. She also tied for the team high in aces with two, along with sophomore Felicia Caldwell and senior Julia Farley. Senior Carlie Peters led the Comets in blocks with two, and senior Cassidy Bump recorded a team-high 15 assists.

Parkview 3, Brodhead 0

PARKVIEW - The Parkview Vikings exacted revenge on the Brodhead volleyball team, defeating the Cardinals in three games (25-16, 25-13, 25-19) Tuesday night, distancing themselves in the Rock Valley South Conference standings.

Earlier this season, Brodhead defeated the Vikings at home 3-2.

The Vikings turned the tables Tuesday, though, thanks in large part to senior Morgan Strzok who led the team in kills (12) and digs (11) while adding five aces.

Carly Mohns led the way for the Cardinals, with seven kills, four blocks and six digs.

Payton Wright also turned in a good game, recording 22 assists, five digs and two aces.

The loss drops Brodhead to 4-4 in the Rock Valley South, while Parkview improves to 6-2.
