Knights hang with Lodi in loss

LODI - Even though the New Glarus Glarner Knights finished a winless regular season Tuesday, their 5-1 loss to the Lodi Blue Devils in a Capitol South Conference game yielded some positives. It was the first game this season in which the Knights held their opponent to under a 10-run margin, and extended a game to the full seven innings.

Freshman Emma Jackson allowed just two earned runs over six innings with seven strikeouts and two walks.

A first-inning error allowed Lodi to score three runs. New Glarus got one of those runs back in the first inning, but were shut out the rest of the way while Lodi tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning.

Senior Jessica Schieldt went 2 for 3, with a double, to lead the Knights.

New Glarus finished the regular season 0-20 overall and 0-16 in the Capitol South. They will be a No. 8 seed and will travel to Cuba City (No. 1 seed) in the Division 3 regional that begins Thursday.
