NEW GLARUS - The Glarner Knights erupted for nine runs in the first inning, but the Cambridge Blue Jays erupted for a lot more throughout the game in a 28-9 rout in Capitol South Conference action Tuesday.

New Glarus put up all nine of their runs in the first inning moments after Cambridge opened the game with five-run first.

After that, the Blue Jays scored in every inning and tallied 23 unanswered runs. New Glarus committed seven errors and gave up 13 unearned runs to the Blue Jays.

Senior Kelsey Schmidt went 2-for-4 with a double to lead the Glarner Knights.

New Glarus (0-2, 0-1 Capitol South) will travel to Marshall on Thursday.

Argyle 12, Highland 9

ARGYLE - A nine-run fifth inning allowed the Orioles to come from behind and upend the Cardinals, 12-9, in a non-conference game Tuesday.

The Orioles trailed 9-2 when their scoring outburst began in the fifth inning with back-to-back-to-back doubles by Kayla Ostby, Jackie Dammen, and Kelsey Bartels. The inning also featured six walks and another double by Danielle Truethardt. Dammen and Bartels each went 3-for-3 to lead the Orioles.

Despite giving up 20 hits, Bartels went the distance to get the win for Argyle, striking out three and walking two.

Argyle (4-1, 1-0 Six Rivers East) will travel to Barneveld for a Six Rivers East game Thursday.

Barneveld 15, Black Hawk 5

GRATIOT - Walks again plagued Black Hawk in a loss to Barneveld Tuesday.

Warriors senior Kim Wellnitz pitched five innings and walked 15. She gave up nine earned runs on eight hits.

"Too many walks again," Black Hawk coach Roger Jackson said. "You are not going to win if you keep putting 15 on base."

Riley Argall went 2-for-3 at the plate and Wellnitz had a triple for the Warriors.

Barneveld's Kelly Mueller was on base all five times she batted (2-for-2 with a two-run homer in the fifth and three walks).
