Knights continue winning ways; Cards fall late

POYNETTE - The New Glarus Glarner Knights captured their second straight win with a 65-54 non-conference victory on the road at Poynette Tuesday.

Sophomore Alexis Hanson poured in 22 points and junior Alycia Atwell delivered 16 points for the Glarner Knights.

"We just hustled and got after loose balls," New Glarus head coach Megan Scheele said.

New Glarus took a 17-14 lead in the first quarter and stayed aggressive throughout the game, taking a 37-30 half-time lead over the Pumas and 53-44 after three quarters.

"We got on them from the start," said Scheele.

New Glarus (1-3 Capitol south) will return to conference play Friday when they travel to Marshall.

East Troy 62, Brodhead 58

EAST TROY - The Brodhead Cardinals had three players in double figures, but it wasn't enough as the East Troy Trojans edged the Cardinals 62-58 in Rock Valley South Conference action Tuesday.

Senior Mariah Mohns scored 17 points and the Cardinals got 11 points each from sophomore Taylor Douglas and freshman Carly Mohns.

The Cardinals trailed 38-33 after three quarters, but couldn't overtake the Trojans in a wild fourth quarter in which the teams combined to score 49 points.

Brodhead (7-6, 5-2 Rock Valley South) will host Whitewater Friday.

Albany 47, Argyle 36

ARGYLE - The Albany Comets limited the Argyle Orioles to just four points in the third quarter and that proved to be the difference in a 47-36 win Tuesday in a Six Rivers East conference game.

Senior Rosy Bauman paced the Comets with 17 points. Argyle got 17 points from junior Katie Dammen and stayed in the game by going 9-10 at the free throw line while Albany struggled at the line, making just five of 14 attempts.

Albany (8-4, 3-2 Six Rivers East) hosts Potosi on Friday in the Six Rivers Challenge while and Argyle (1-10, 0-5 Six Rivers East) will host Benton the same night.

Barneveld 61 Pecatonica 40

BARNEVELD - The Barneveld Eagles remained one game behind front-running Black Hawk after downing the Pecatonica Vikings Tuesday in a Six Rivers East match-up.

The Vikings stayed with the Eagles through the first quarter and trailed just 12-4. But, the deficit grew to 19 points after the Eagles outscored the Vikings 20-5 in the second quarter to take control with a 32-13 half-time lead.

Senior Alisha Esselstein led the Vikings with 15 points

Pecatonica (1-11, 1-4 Six Rivers East) will host the Belmont Braves Friday in the Six Rivers Challenge.
