Knights, Cardinals and Warriors roll; Vikings, Wildcats both fall

NEW GLARUS - The New Glarus-Monticello football team in dominating fashion rolled to a 44-9 win over Beloit Turner Friday night.

Before the New Glarus-Monticello offense had a chance to get on the field, senior defensive back Corey McGowan returned a fumble 19 yards for a touchdown. New Glarus-Monticello senior Brandon Gerber's fumble recovery late in the first quarter set up the Knights' second scoring opportunity. Senior Tyler Dorn, who rushed for 80 yards on nine carries and scored three touchdowns, scored on a 19-yard run to give the Knights a 14-0 lead.

New Glarus-Monticello senior Kirbe French rushed for 94 yards on five carries and had one touchdown. New Glarus-Monticello senior quarterback Lukas Kolasch completed 1 of 4 passes for 38 yards with one interception. New Glarus-Monticello (2-0) will host Columbus in a Capitol South showdown Sept. 10.

Brodhead-Juda 41, Cuba City 13

CUBA CITY - Behind a balanced offensive attack, Brodhead-Juda rolled to its first win of the season.

The Cardinals (1-1) racked up 414 total yards. Brodhead-Juda junior quarterback David Earleywine completed 7 of 11 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns. The Cardinals also rushed for 243 yards as a team. Senior running back Gavin Garrett rushed for 85 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown. Garrett gave the Cardinals an early lead with a 1-yard TD plunge at 4:27 in the first quarter.

Earleywine connected with Blair Chapman on a 50-yard TD pass at 9:54 in the second quarter to give the Cardinals a 14-0 lead. Earleywine also threw a 13-yard TD pass to senior Mike Peterson and a 56-yard TD pass to junior Trent Jordan.

Brodhead-Juda will open Rock Valley Conference play against defending WIAA Division 4 state champion Walworth Big Foot Sept. 10.

Black Hawk 38, Belmont 0

SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk senior quarterback Michael Wolff scored three touchdowns to lead the Warriors to a 38-0 rout over Belmont.

Wolff was 15-of-22 passing for 242 yards and two touchdowns. Wolff opened the scoring for the Warriors (1-1) with a 4-yard TD run at 2:36 in the first quarter. He then hooked up with Hayden Schliem on a 41-yard TD pass at 5:24 in the third quarter to give the Warriors a 12-0 lead. Schliem caught five passes for 100 yards and one touchdown.

The Warriors had 441 total yards including 199 rushing.

Black Hawk junior Michael Walker scored on a 2-yard TD run. Black Hawk junior Jace Johnsrud scored on a 40-yard run and he caught a 34-yard TD pass from Wolff to give the Warriors a 30-0 lead. Black Hawk junior Kyle Woodruff capped the scoring for the Warriors with a 65-yard TD run.

Potosi 36, Pecatonica-Argyle 6

BLANCHARDVILLE - With the early season schedule Pecatonica-Argyle has played, coach Larry Green understands where his team stands after a loss to Six Rivers Conference preseason favorite Potosi.

"It definitely tells us where we stand," Green said. "We know we can play with anyone. We just have to do it for four quarters and eliminate the mental mistakes."

Potosi's Dakota Runde rushed for 103 yards on 19 carries and scored two touchdowns to lead the Chieftains. The Vikings only touchdown came on Jon Hendrickson's 21-yard TD pass to sophomore Dillon Conwell in the fourth quarter. Hendrickson completed 4 of 7 passes for 70 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Senior Charlie Rubio completed 5 of 12 passes for 17 yards. Pecatonica-Argyle junior Jared Johnson rushed for 50 yards on 11 carries.

Parkview 15, Belleville-Albany 13

ORFORDVILLE - The Wildcats came within the final seconds of coming back to force overtime against Orfordville-Parkview.

Belleville-Albany junior Collin Adams tossed a 13-yard TD pass to Mike Nolden with 38 seconds to cut Parkview's lead to 15-13. The Wildcats tried an onside kick, but Parkview recovered. Adams was 6-of-12 passing for 34 yards.

Belleville-Albany senior Donovan Woods rushed for 136 yards on 24 carries and scored one touchdown.
