NEW GLARUS - After giving up 30 points in the first three quarters in their conference game against Cambridge on Tuesday night, the New Glarus boys basketball team allowed the Blue Jays to score 31 points in the fourth quarter and overtime on their way to a 61-58 loss.

"We gave up way too many offensive rebounds," Knights coach Travis Sysko said. "But you have to credit them (Cambridge). They were able to make their free throws when they counted."

After learning they will be the eighth-seed in the opening round of the WIAA playoffs, Sysko's only concern is about the next task at hand.

"Our focus right now is to get better each and every day," said Sysko. "We're not worried about the playoffs right now. Our concern is about our next game (Lake Mills)."

New Glarus senior Martrell Dixon had a huge outing for the Knights, scoring a game-high 28 points in the loss. Gavin Binger added 12 points.

Pecatonica 71, Argyle 47

ARGYLE - Vikings teammates Drew Schliem, A.J. Hendrickson, and Kole Kent each had prolific outings on Tuesday night, as they helped propel their team to a convincing 71-47 rout over the host Orioles.

Thanks to a strong start, the Vikings entered halftime with a 17-point lead and continued their solid play in the second half.

Schliem paced the Vikings offensively with 21 points but was not to be outdone by Kent and Hendrickson, who each added 20 and 15 points respectively.

For Argyle, Riley Ostby had 14 points while teammate Chris Severson added 12 points. The Orioles (6-15, 2-8) close out the season Friday, Feb. 21 in Monticello.

Barneveld 51,

Monticello 46

BARNEVELD - Despite the score being tied 34-34 after the third quarter in a Tuesday night conference game, the Monticello boys basketball team was unable to hold the host Golden Eagles in the final quarter, losing 51-46.

In an evenly matched game, both teams traded baskets in the first half as Barneveld entered halftime with a one-point advantage. The Ponies were able to settle the difference in the third, but were then outscored 17-12 in the fourth.

Monticello had three players score in double figures, led by Logan Crooks with 15 points. Ben May and Lucas Marty added 14 and 11 points respectively.

Darlington 71, Fennimore 53

DARLINGTON - Coming off a string of losses last week, the Darlington boys basketball team put an end to their bad fortunes by picking up a 71-53 victory on their homecourt against Fennimore.

Fifteen players were able to score for the Redbirds on Senior night, led by Cole McDonald with 12 points and Ben Muhlstein with 10 points.

"We were able to play a lot of people tonight," Darlington coach Michael Hopkins said. "Our seniors gave us a lead in the first quarter, and we were able to play on from there."

After losing key games to conference opponents last week, Michael is looking for his team to make some adjustments as they approach the playoffs.

"We didn't play well in some areas in our games last week," Michael said. "That may have cost us in our seeding in the playoffs. We need to be more consistent on both ends of the floor."

Darlington was able to connect on nine 3-pointers on Tuesday night, and combined for 44 points in a stretch between the second and third quarters. The Redbirds (10-9, 5-2) travel to Cuba City on Thursday, Feb. 20.
