Knights, Albany net confernce wins

NEW GLARUS - The Glarner Knights cruised to a 31-point lead in the second half and routed the Blue Jays Tuesday night in Capitol South Conference play, 61-41.

Four players scored in double figures for New Glarus with seniors Ryan Bright and Cameron Jeglum leading the way with 13 points each. Junior Tyler Dorn and sophomore Tyler Kreklow each added 10 points for New Glarus.

The Glarner Knights had lost four of their last five games, but head coach Travis Sysko liked how his team recovered.

"Great unselfish play tonight. It was good to see our offense get going tonight," Sysko said.

New Glarus (9-5, 2-4 Capitol South) will travel to Darlington Tuesday for a non-conference game.

Albany 50, Juda 47

ALBANY - The Comets withstood Juda's rally in the final minute to down the Panthers Tuesday night in Six Rivers East Conference action.

Albany led 49-44 with under a minute remaining when Juda's Matt Trotter drained a three-pointer with 20 seconds left to cut the margin to 49-47. Albany's T.J. Bump was fouled and made one of two free throws to give Albany a 50-47 lead before the Panthers called time out with 12 seconds left.

The Panthers got the ball to Brandon Bauman whose three point attempt from the corner bounced long off the rim. Dylan Bauman grabbed the rebound, but missed on a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Albany (5-10, 3-4 Six Rivers East) was led by senior Bryce Hulbert with 15 points. Bump scored 11 points with nine coming in the second half.

"He made some critical baskets for us down the stretch," Albany head coach Derik Doescher said.

Juda (4-10, 2-5 Six Rivers East) got a game-high 16 points from sophomore Brandon Bauman.

Albany will travel to River Ridge while Juda travels to Potosi Friday for the Six Rivers Challenge.

River Ridge 40, Pecatonica 34

PATCH GROVE - The Vikings and the Timberwolves battled Tuesday to a 26-26 tie after three quarters, but missed free throws in the fourth quarter cost Pecatonica in a non-conference loss on the road to River Ridge of the Six Rivers West. The Vikings missed five free throws while being outscored 14-8 in the final quarter.

"They got the ball in the middle, then found the open man when we tried to help, and they made their free throws," Pecatonica head coach Kevin Parman said.

Senior Jason Meudt scored 14 points to lead Pecatonica (7-7, 4-2 Six Rivers East).

The Vikings will see another Six Rivers West Conference opponent Friday when they travel to Belmont in the Six Rivers Challenge.

Darlington 66, Boscobel 57

BOSCOBEL - The Redbirds used an 18-7 advantage from the free throw line to top the Bulldogs Tuesday night in a SWAL Conference matchup.

The score was tied at 27 at halftime, but Darlington took control in the second half by outscoring Boscobel, 39-30.

Junior Alex Erickson scored 34 points just days after recording his 1,000th career point. Erickson reached the individual feat during Saturday's win against Barneveld.

Senior Tanner Havens and junior Tucker Wiegel added nine points each for Darlington (14-1, 8-1 SWAL). The Redbirds will host Southwestern Friday.

Barneveld 57, Argyle 41

ARGYLE - Barneveld raced out to a 32-13 halftime lead and opened up a 29-point lead in the second half to power past the Orioles in Six Rivers East conference play Tuesday.

"They came out and pressed us," Argyle coach Kurt Ritschard said. "For the most part we did a good job of breaking the press. Sometimes we went too fast with the ball. They got some steals, layups and three 3-pointers right before the half."

Arygle was led in scoring by Matt Ritchie and junior Ryan Geissbuhler who each scored eight points. Sophomore Nate Thomas scored seven points for Argyle (0-13, 0-7 Six Rivers East).

The Orioles travel to Cassville Friday.
