NEW GLARUS - The Sugar River boys soccer team's lead was brief Thursday in a 3-2 loss to Mount Horeb.

The Raiders took the early 1-0 lead just 2 minutes, 53 seconds into the game when Otto Kienitz knocked the ball into the net off a pass from Brian Anderson.

But just more than three minutes later, the Vikings tied the score, then took the lead for good in the 26th minute of the first half.

In the second half, Mount Horeb made it a 3-1 game right out of the gate. Kienitz scored his second goal, bringing the Raiders back to within a goal in the 62nd minute off a pass from Ryne Ferguson. But the Vikings shut Sugar River down the rest of the way.

Goalkeeper Eric Liegel had 13 saves in the loss.

The Raiders' junior-varsity team lost 8-0.

Sugar River (4-5, 3-1) hosts the Sugar River Quad on Saturday in Belleville.
