MONROE - Sophomore Maddie Kallgren scored five goals to lead Monroe to a 6-2 win over Sparta in a non-conference game Saturday.
Kall-gren scored her first goal at 4 minutes, 45 seconds. She scored a goal moments later on an assist from junior midfielder Emily Frankowski. She scored her third goal for a hat trick on a header off an assist from senior captain Madeline Knutson to give the Cheesemakers a 3-0 lead. Frankowski scored a goal on a pass from Knutson at 28:22 to give the Cheesemakers a 4-1 lead at the half.
"It was a fantastic game from Maddie," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "A lot of her goals were set up by nice combinations from her teammates. She (Kallgren) obviously had an incredible game."
Monroe (5-5, 0-2 Badger South) outshot Sparta 40-14.
"We dominated the game," O'Neill said. "It was a nice confidence boost to have a strong win at home. We were coming off a couple of games where we haven't been able to score and your confidence takes a beating."
Kallgren scored an unassisted goal at 60:54 and then capped the scoring with her fifth goal on an assist from senior Brooke Ramos at 76:27.
Monroe senior goalkeeper Shyanna Kelley had 10 saves.
Monroe will look to pick up its first conference win when they play at Milton on Tuesday.
"We have lost a lot of very tough games," O'Neill said. "If everyone brings their best game we can be competitive with anyone. I think we have a good shot at taking that game."
