STOUGHTON - Monroe junior Maddie Kallgren scored two goals to propel the Cheesemakers to a 2-1 win over Stoughton Thursday.

Kallgren scored the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute on a direct kick.

Early on, the game had the makings of one that would go down to the wire. Stoughton's Leah Olson scored a goal at 41 minutes, 46 seconds to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead at the half.

"We got the feeling at the half that we were two evenly-matched teams," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "At the half, we wanted them to pay more attention to the little details. It was focusing on communicating, having an extra touch on the ball if there was time and kicking the ball to the outside and not down the center. They were little things they needed to start thinking about. I think everyone went out in the second half and turned up the intensity just a little bit."

Kallgren scored a game-tying goal on an assist from junior Sami Curtis at 75:17 to tie the game at 1. Kallgren then scored the game-winning goal on a direct kick at 81:19. With the win, Monroe improves to 9-7-2, 2-3 Badger South.
