ORLANDO, Fla. - The Wisconsin Hoops Select 15-and-younger basketball team featuring Juda's Ellen Kiser finished second in the AAU Division 1 national championship Thursday with a 64-52 loss to the Florida Orlando Comets at Disney World.

The Wisconsin Hoops Select finished 6-1. Kiser averaged 12 points and 6.2 rebounds in bracket play. She had 10 points and eight rebounds in the championship game against the Comets.

"There were a lot of Division 1 caliber players on both teams," said Dan Staples, Wisconsin Hoops Select coach. "The Orlando and Georgia Elite teams are two of the best sophomore teams in the country."

The Wisconsin Hoops Select team picked up a 55-48 win over the Kentucky Blast in the first round of bracket play. The Hoops Select team defeated Virginia TPLS 56-52 in the quarterfinals. Wisconsin pulled out a 56-55 win over the Georgia Elite team in the semifinals to get to the championship game.

Kiser scored 16 points and had six rebounds in the semifinal win over Georgia.

"She has a tremendous attitude and motor," Staples said. "She runs the floor really well. She's really rugged. Offensively, she's smart with the basketball."

Wisconsin Hoops Select completed pool play Sunday 3-0. The Hoops Select team defeated the Virginia Storm 63-53 and beat the Florida Gatekeepers 60-48. In the final pool game, the Hoops Select defeated the Michigan Hurrikanes 55-37.

Staples has enjoyed seeing Kiser develop as a post player.

"She has made some tremendous strides the last two years," he said. "I have seen her get better and better. She has tremendous upside. It's just working on skills now. It will determine where she goes from here."
