HUSTISFORD - Juda junior Chelsea Burkhalter knocked down seven 3-pointers and scored a game-high 28 points to propel the Panthers to a 51-48 overtime win over Hustisford in a WIAA Division 5 regional championship Saturday. It marks the first regional title the Juda girls basketball team has won in the history of the program.

Juda (15-10) pulled out a win for the second straight game. In back-to-back games, Juda defeated No. 2 seed Randolph and No. 3 seed Hustisford. Juda advances to play No. 1 seed Fall River in a Division 5 sectional semifinal at 7 p.m. Thursday in Evansville.

"It's been a crazy two games," Juda coach Curt Brown said. "It's the first regional title for boys or girls basketball in Juda history. It says a lot about our team. We were not intimidated. We went in as a No. 7 seed and we know we would play teams that we have never seen before and they wouldn't know us as much."

Juda trailed by 10 points with about 10 minutes to go. The Panthers closed the game on a 12-2 run. Burkhalter hit two 3-pointers in the final 2 minutes to help the Panthers storm back to tie it and force overtime.

Juda junior point guard Alexis Goecks fouled out late in the second half.

"MacKenzie Byrne came in and she steadied the ship a little bit," Brown said. "Once we tied it we had the momentum going into overtime."

Byrne added 10 points and sophomore Hailey Kammerer scored nine points.

Juda made just 12 of 22 free throws, but made seven free throws in the extra session to seal the win.

"We were able to get some fouls on shots," Brown said. "Once we got a two-point lead we pulled the ball out."

Now, Juda will have three days to prepare to play Fall River. Brown is working to devise a gameplan for Fall River.

"We want to limit the possessions against a good team," Brown said. "We don't want to stray too far from our strengths. We have to play our game. Fall River is deep. We are not tall. Hopefully our quickness and speed will help out."
