ARGYLE - Juda's softball team did all of its damage very late Tuesday, tying the score with a seventh-inning run, then beating Argyle 3-1 with two runs in the ninth inning.

The Panthers' Amber Ramos recorded 14 strikeouts, while walking nine, to capture the win. The Orioles' Kelsey Bartels also had 14 strikeouts and walked two in the loss.

Both teams had five hits, however the Orioles doubled Juda's errors. The Orioles committed two errors in the game.

Argyle's Kelsey Ostby led all hitters by going 3-for-3. Ramos was 2-for-4, including a triple. Juda's Aly Pierce was 2-for-3.

"It was a really good game," Argyle coach Heidi Ganshert said. "They put a couple of hits together at the end to win it. We hit the ball, we just couldn't put the hits together."

Monticello 4, Albany 1

ALBANY - Monticello scored all of its runs in the final three innings Tuesday to down the Comets.

Monticello scored one run in both the fourth and fifth innings, then added two in the sixth. Albany tied the score with a run of its own in the bottom of the fifth.

Mary Hershberger earned the win, giving up five hits. She struck out four batters and didn't give up a walk.

Albany's Katie Krupke gave up 12 hits while striking out four and giving up one walk in the game.

"Krupke throws pretty good for a freshman," Monticello coach Duane Garrison said. "She throws a lot of strikes. Albany has gotten a lot better as a team."

The Comets' Megan Farley and Monticello's Taylor Pfeuti each had three hits in the game. The Ponies' Becky Nelson and Des Marty each had two hits.

"We played a really, really good game. I'm proud of my kids," Comets head coach Connie Wunschel said.

Barneveld 8,

Black Hawk 0

Barneveld 5,

Black Hawk 4

GRATIOT - Barneveld relied on its offense to take both games from the Warriors in a doubleheader Tuesday.

Black Hawk's Kim Wellnitz pitched seven innings, giving up four earned runs. She allowed eight hits, walked 10 batters and struck out six.

"We didn't play very well, and that kind of goes along with how we've been playing lately," Warriors coach Roger Jackson said.

The score was 2-0 with two outs and bases loaded in the sixth inning when the mistakes began to grow. Wellnitz struck out what should have been the final out, but a dropped third strike allowed a run to score and the runner to reach.

"Then there was an error and a couple of hits, and all of a sudden they have six more runs," Jackson said.

In game two, the Warriors' Kayla Melland pitched seven innings, allowing five runs, in a see-saw game.

Black Hawk took a 1-0 lead in the fourth but Barneveld responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.

The Warriors recaptured the lead with two runs in the top of the sixth but Barneveld tied the game with a run in the bottom of the inning.

Leading 4-3 the Warriors had a chance to win the second game, but Barneveld scored two in the bottom of the sixth on a game-winning hit by Brooke Allen to take it away from them.

"We played a lot better," Jackson said.
