JUDA - First-year Juda coach Scott Anderson picked up his first coaching win in the Six Rivers East Conference Tuesday, Sept. 3 as the Panthers defeated Black Hawk in four sets 25-13, 25-16, 25-27, 25-21.
"This is a team that is growing," Anderson said. "My big joke is they are buying the Kool-Aid. They are buying in that they have to hustle to every ball and every ball is in play. We haven't won a lot of matches in conference the last couple of years so starting out 1-0 is great."
Juda senior Jessica Jordan had six kills and four blocks to lead the Panthers. Senior Tabatha Davis had eight assists and three aces. Juda freshman Chelsea Burkhalter also had three aces. Morgan Atkins had a team-high 14 digs.
Anderson said the Panthers were better than 80 percent serving.
"We are buying in that we have to cover," Anderson said. "We kept a lot of balls in play."
Black Hawk senior Mikayla Sigafus had nine kills and junior Alexis Warrell had 13 assists. Jordan Delzer had four aces.
Monticello 3, Albany 0
ALBANY - Albany played toe-to-toe with Six Rivers Conference favorite Monticello in the first conference match for both teams.
The Ponies pulled out a competitive three set win 25-21, 25-21, 25-15.
"It was a lot of fun," Albany coach Connie Wunschel said. "We were really amped up that first game. Their endless assortment of weapons found us. We put the scare into them. We showed the kids we can do a lot more than we have been doing."
Monticello senior Marissa Berg had nine kills and four blocks. Senior teammate Clare Bruns had 31 assists and senior Claire Geitzel racked up 21 digs.
Albany junior Alexis Kennedy had 10 kills and 19 digs to lead the Comets. Albany senior Felicia Conley had 27 assists and senior Ashlee Berra and junior Liz Schroeder each had four blocks.
Barneveld 3, Pecatonica 0
BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica volleyball team is still in search of its first win after dropping a conference match to Barneveld 25-15, 25-22, 25-14.
Pecatonica's Clara Moen had three kills and three assists.
Pecatonica senior Julia Meyer had a team-high three blocks and Brooke Johnson and Alexandra Ihm each notched three digs.
"I think we struggled with our serve receive," Pecatonica coach Tori Leonard said. "We just need to be more on our feet. In the second set, we stepped up our game."
