JUDA - The Juda volleyball team is still in contention for a Six Rivers East Conference championship and the Panthers made a statement in by sweeping Faith Christian Monday in a non-conference match.

Juda junior Alexis Goecks had four kills and racked up 10 digs to lead the Panthers to a 25-15, 25-13, 25-10 win over Faith Christian. With Faith Christian in the Panthers' regional, Juda coach Scott Anderson looked at the match as an opportunity.

"It was a big match for us to make sure we get a home game," Anderson said of the regional. "I'm sure Black Hawk, Pec and Catholic Central will get home games. If we didn't win this game, we can't even have that discussion."

With the win, Juda improves to 11-5, 5-3 Six Rivers East.

"It's Oct. 5 and we have everything to play for," Anderson said. "It wasn't long ago when it was October and our season was over."

Juda sophomore MacKenzie Byrne notched six aces and senior Megan Powers had six assists. Junior teammate Sara Jordan had four kills.
