JUDA - If the Juda High School volleyball team wanted to stay in the hunt for a top-three spot in the Six Rivers East Conference, coach Scott Anderson figured Tuesday's match against Black Hawk was a must-win.

Juda (6-7, 3-3 Six Rivers East) did just that, sweeping the Warriors 25-21, 25-23, 25-11. The Panthers move into a tie with Black Hawk and Monticello for third in the conference.

"We are both good teams," Anderson said. "This was for moving up to the third-place area in the conference. It's a logjam. If we don't win this we are not in the logjam. We are starting to roll a little bit."

Juda junior Hailey Kammerer had a team-high 11 kills. Senior Chelsea Burkhalter dished out 18 assists. Senior Alexis Goecks racked up 23 digs. Both Juda junior MacKenzie Byrne and senior Miranda Klitzman were perfect on getting their serves in. Byrne was 20-for-20 and scored 15 points serving, and Klitzman was 19-for-19 and scored 10 points serving.

"That's huge," Anderson said. "She (Byrne) was clicking along and serving well."

Senior Sam Lovelace led the Warriors with nine kills, and junior Hannah Herbst had 17 assists. Senior Elizabeth Holland had four blocks.

"Sam (Lovelace) and Jordyn Delzer are really good players," Anderson said. "Sam and Jordyn were really forces tonight."

Barneveld 3, Monticello 2

MONTICELLO - Teegan Pickarts delivered 21 kills and 13 digs to lead Barneveld to a comeback five-set win over Monticello.

Monticello (4-7, 3-3 Six Rivers East) won the first set 25-19. The Golden Eagles (4-2 Six Rivers East) battled back to win the next two sets 25-23, 25-19. The Ponies knocked off the Eagles 25-17 in the fourth set, and Barneveld edged the Ponies in the final set 15-11.

"I just said we have to learn how to be able to finish," said Monticello coach Scott Smice, recalling his message to the team after the match. "We started out so well and the first game was ours. That's been our M.O. It just looked like we lost our edge. Maybe things were going too well in the first game and we let up. By the time we got our mojo and edge back it was Game 5 and anything can happen. Hopefully, we can work that bug out before the postseason gets here."

Monticello sophomore Hannah Zanow had a team-best eight kills, and Abby Wicker added seven kills and posted a team-high six blocks. Senior Jessie Garrison racked up 32 assists and had five aces.

Barneveld's Taryn Pickarts had 15 assists, and Jessica Walker added 12 digs.

ALBANY - Argyle stayed on top in the Six Rivers East Conference after sweeping Albany.

Senior Kayla Butler-Paulson had 21 assists and 10 digs to lead the Orioles to a 25-9, 25-2, 25-10 win over the Comets.

Argyle improves to 8-3, 6-0 Six Rivers East. Albany drops to 0-6 in conference.

Argyle junior Ashley Bruehlman and Morgan Nelson each had a team-best seven kills. Bruehlman had 12 digs and four blocks. Nelson added four aces for the Orioles.

Senior Sayde McDermott delivered six kills for the Comets. Albany's Kelsey Hoesly posted 10 digs. Senior Taylor Seffrood had six assists, and sophomore Libby Beck notched two aces.

NEW GLARUS - Belleville's Grace Schulting had nine kills and three aces to power the Wildcats to a sweep over New Glarus.

Belleville (17-8, 5-1 Capitol South) rolled to a 25-22, 25-13, 25-15 win over the Glarner Knights during pack-the-gym night in New Glarus.

"It's always a good rivalry game," New Glarus coach Jenna Piche said.

New Glarus junior Willow Lee had a team-best six kills and junior Julia Barnaby had a team-high nine blocks. Senior Madison Perkins had 10 digs and junior Riley Parker led the Knights with seven assists.
