WILLIAMS BAY - Juda senior Chelsea Burkhalter scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Panthers to a 53-30 win over Williams Bay in a first-round tournament game Thursday.

Juda (5-3, 0-1 Six Rivers East) advances to the championship game of the Williams Bay Tournament and will play Catholic Central today.

"Catholic Central is always a good team," Juda coach Curt Brown said. "They carry a strong name with them. It's good to have a quality opponent like that after break. It will be a good test for us."

Burkhalter did most of her damage from the free-throw line where she was 10 of 13.

Juda's Maddie Roth added 10 points and hit two 3-pointers and junior Hailey Kammerer chipped in nine points.

"She (Burkhalter) did a good job of penetrating in the lane getting contact and making her free throws," Brown said.

Black Hawk 71, New Glarus 37

SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk freshman Natalie Leuzinger led a balanced scoring attack by scoring a game-high 21 points to go along with seven steals to power the Warriors to a nonconference win over New Glarus.

Black Hawk (8-0), ranked eighth in the WisSports.net Division 5 coaches poll, had four players reach double figures. Freshman Maddy Huschitt added 14 points, and freshman Hannah Butler had 13 points. Junior Brianna Hagen scored 10 points.

The Warriors hit seven 3-pointers as a team with two each from Leuzinger, Butler and Hagen.

"I thought we did a good job of being physical against a team that was bigger than we were," Black Hawk coach Mike Flanagan said.

The Warriors had 22 steals in the game. Black Hawk junior Hannah Herbst scored six points, had 10 assists, five rebounds and seven steals.

"I felt like our press and half-court defense was effective," Flanagan said. "They scored 27 points and had 10 points on free throws. I think that is a credit to our defense."

New Glarus junior Willow Lee scored a team-high 15 points and junior Julia Barnaby added eight points.

Albany at Cambridge Tournament

CAMBRIDGE - Sophomore Libby Beck had two strong outings, and coach Adam Wamsley said he believes the Comets are on the verge of picking up their first win of the season.

Beck scored 12 points in Albany's 71-36 loss to Cambridge in the Comets' first game of the day.

Then Beck poured in a career-high 28 points in the Comets' 67-53 loss to Brookfield Academy.

"We had a size advantage and we were able to get the ball to her in the post and she made some good moves to the basket, and she crashed the boards like crazy," Wamsley said. "She played well both games. She fought well and gave us everything she had."

Albany (0-9) trailed 37-19 at halftime but outscored Brookfield Academy 34-30 in the second half and trimmed the lead to seven at one point.

"If we can somehow take that second half and build on it, we might finally get in the win column soon," Wamsley said. "The girls were really grinding. I thought it was one of our best halves of the year."

In other action, Potosi cruised to a 66-12 win over Pecatonica.
