Juda moves on; Argyle falls to SW

PALMYRA - Juda knocked off Williams Bay in the first round of the Palmyra-Eagle Tournament Tuesday, 54-47.

The Panthers trailed 9-1 to open the game, but closed out the first quarter on a 14-5 run. By halftime, Juda's advantage grew to 37-22.

"We hit three (3-point shots) in the second quarter and just hung on from there," Juda coach Curt Brown said.

Ellen Kiser scored 15 points to lead the Panthers. Heather Boeke and Larissa Klemm each added nine. It was Klemm's first action since a Dec. 12 game at Beloit Turner.

The Panthers face off against Johnson Creek tonight at 5 p.m. in the championship.

Southwestern 62, Argyle 29

HAZEL GREEN - The Orioles could not stop Southwestern from the get-go Tuesday.

Argyle trailed 15-8 after the first quarter and 31-10 at halftime.

Kelsey Bartels scored nine points for the Orioles and Jackie Dammen hit a 3-pointer.

Grafton 36, Brodhead 35

LAKE GENEVA - Dana Lewis scored 16 points, but the Cardinals could not complete a seven-point comeback, losing to defending WIAA Division 2 state champion, Grafton.

Brodhead trailed 9-3 after the first quarter and 20-12 at halftime.

Megan Heller scored seven points and hit the Cardinals' only 3-pointer.

Mineral Point 78, Pecatonica 46

BLANCHARDVILLE - The Vikings capsized in the third-place game of the Pecatonica Holiday Tournament Tuesday.

Mineral Point led 16-12 after the first quarter, but outscored Pecatonica 25-10 in the second to hold a 41-22 advantage.

Kimee Chandler scored a team-high 16 points and had six rebounds, five assists and three steals for the Vikings. Alisha Esselstein had 10 points, three boards and five assists. Ellie Gifford had nine points and four boards and Kaitlyn Linder had five points and seven boards.

Rilee Schmitz led Mineral Point with 21 points.
