ORANGEVILLE - Juda junior Amber Ramos pitched a one-hit shutout propelling the Panthers to a 12-0 win over South Beloit in the first round of the Orangeville tournament.
Ramos pitched five innings and struck out 10. Ramos also went 2 for 3 at the plate for the Panthers. Juda senior Alycia Grenzow hit a triple and sophomore Jessica Rackow had a double.
"We are getting into the groove of things," Juda coach Bill Davis said. "The offense is getting going."
Juda will play Stillman Valley today.
Evansville 2, Albany 1
EVANSVILLE - The Comets nearly pulled out a non-conference win over Evansville on Friday that would have put Albany at 2-0 for the first time in years.
Outside of a 2-run second inning by the Blue Devils, in which pitcher Katie Krupke allowed two unearned runs, Albany was solid. Krupke allowed just four hits and three walks in six innings, striking out three. Carlie Peters and Krupke also had Albany's only two hits.
"We were hitting the ball hard," Albany coach Connie Wunschel said. "We had a lot of lined shots, they just went right at somebody."
The Comets scored its only run in the fourth inning when Megan Farley's hit was misplayed by Evansville's second baseman, allowing sister Julia Farley to score.
The two teams combined for nine errors.
Lake Mills 32, New Glarus 0
LAKE MILLS - The Glarner Knights continued their rough start to the season on Friday, getting no-hit in five innings.
New Glarus pitchers allowed 30 hits and the Knights defense committed six errors.
Lake Mills scored 5 runs in the first, 11 in the second, 13 in the third and 3 more in the fourth. The L-Cats also had nine stolen bases, four triples, eight doubles, walked 12 times and struck out 10 Glarner Knight hitters.
