ORFORDVILLE - Juda-Albany got solid production from its lineup en route to winning two games in Orfordville Saturday.
Juda-Albany (4-0, 1-0 Six Rivers East) defeated Orfordville-Parkview 7-5 and then beat Evansville 6-1. Juda-Albany sophomore Alexis Goecks went 4-for-4 against Parkview. Sophomore teammate Sara Jordan went 3-for-4 with a double and Jessica Crull was 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Freshman teammate Nicki Becker was 2-for-4 with a double.
"I think we took a huge stride forward," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said.
Senior Cheyenne Ambler pitched 3 2/3 innings to get the win. Ambler gave up five runs on two hits. She struck out one and walked seven. Becker closed the door pitching 3 1/3 shutout innings in relief.
The Panthers struck early against Evansville with a four-run first. Juda-Albany freshman Hailey Kammerer had a key two-run single in the first inning to lead the Panthers. Both Kammerer and Becker finished with two RBI.
Becker pitched a complete game to pick up the win against the Blue Devils. She gave up one run on three hits. She struck out six and walked one.
"Nicki is pitching good," Davis said. 'She hits her spots. I think our defense played very good all weekend. It's nice to see the defense step up and support the pitcher."
