ORFORDVILLE - The Juda-Albany softball team split two games in Orfordville on Saturday and saw two solid pitchers they hope will prepare them for the Six Rivers East Conference portion of the season.
Evansville slugged its way to a 12-7 win over Juda-Albany in the first game. The Panthers bounced back and topped Parkview 3-2 in the second game. With the split of games, Juda-Albany moves to 3-1.
"We faced two really good pitchers which will help us the rest of the season," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said.
Evansville scored five runs in the second inning off Juda-Albany senior pitcher Sara Jordan. Jordan stared and pitched four innings. She gave up eight runs on seven hits. Jordan struck out four and walked two. Junior Maddie Roth pitched two innings and gave up two runs on three hits. She struck out two and walked two. Junior Nicki Becker pitched one inning and gave up two runs on two hits and struck out one.
Junior Hailey Kammerer went 3-for-4 with three RBI and senior Alexis Goecks was 3-for-4 with one RBI. Senior Riley Adkins went 2-for-4.
"I was very happy with our hitting in that game," Davis said. "The wind was really blowing and there were a few plays if we make them, maybe it turns out differently. That goes two ways and they could say the same thing. We got our other pitchers some innings so that was good."
Becker pitched a two-hitter in the second game against Parkview. She gave up two runs in pitching a complete game to get the win. She struck out nine and walked one.
"She (Becker) threw a gem of a game," Davis said.
Jordan led off the seventh inning with a double. Becker then followed with a game-winning RBI single.
"We struggled hitting early on' against a Parkview freshman pitcher who struck out 12, Davis said. "We went to some small ball to manufacture some runs. You have to find different ways to win games."
Wis. Heights 4, Monticello 2
MAZOMANIE - Wisconsin Heights scored three runs in the first inning and held on after a Monticello comeback to edge the Ponies on Saturday.
Monticello senior Jessie Garrison went 2-for-3. Garrison pitched six innings and gave up three earned runs on six hits. She struck out three and walked three.
