Johnson powers Redbirds

DARLINGTON - Senior running back Hunter Johnson rushed for 360 yards on 13 carries and scored six total touchdowns to power the second-ranked Darlington High School football team to a 63-20 romp over Cuba City on Friday.

Johnson had four touchdown runs and caught a 45-yard TD pass from senior quarterback Jared Meister in a 21-point outburst by the Redbirds in the first quarter.

Darlington (5-0, 2-0 SWAL) gashed the Cubans for 516 total rushing yards.

Johnson bolted for an 80-yard TD run to give the Redbirds a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. Johnson also scored on a 6-yard run. He added a 96-yard TD run in the second quarter and had a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown late in the second quarter. Two seconds before the half, Johnson had a 73-yard TD run to give the Redbirds a 42-7 lead at the half.

Darlington senior Trevor Johnson had a 40-yard TD run in the third quarter, and Kameron Blosch added a 3-yard TD run midway through the third. Blosch added a second touchdown on a 4-yard run late in the fourth quarter. Meister completed 2 of 2 passes for 47 yards and one touchdown.

Also Friday, New Glarus-Monticello (2-3, 1-0 Capitol South) scored 36 unanswered points in the second half for a comeback 42-7 victory over host Belleville.

Evansville-Albany defeated host Edgerton 41-3. Evansville-Albany (4-1) is in a three-way tie atop the Rock Valley Conference with East Troy and Clinton.

In the Six Rivers Conference, Black Hawk (3-2) beat rival Potosi 36-22.

Brodhead-Juda (2-3) rolled to a 40-6 victory over host McFarland.

Coaches from New Glarus-Monticello, Evansville-Albany, Black Hawk and Brodhead-Juda did not report any information about their games to The Monroe Times.

In a game originally scheduled for today, Pecatonica-Argyle received a win via forfeit by Cassville. However, the Vikings (5-0) will host the Stoughton reserve team at 2 p.m. today.
