Johnson finishes strong for Redbird track

DARLINGTON - Darlington's Kyle Johnson continued his standout track season, sweeping the championship in both the 110-meter high hurdles and 300 hurdles at the Redbird Invite Monday, May 7.

Johnson, a junior, won the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.36 seconds, and he took first in the 300 hurdles (:42.78). Black Hawk's Jayden Rufenacht took second in the 100 (11.59) and fourth in the 200 (24.03).

Darlington junior Tyson Miehe won the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 0.32 seconds. Teammate Quinn Cullen took second in the 1,600 (4:36.23) and Albany senior Jose Ramirez was third (4:40.73). Aaron Johnson finished second in the 3,200 (10:36.58). Albany's 3,200 relay team of David Edmondson, Johnny Kallgren, Kyle Woyak and Johnson won with a time of 9:05.61. Albany's Logan Webb finished second in the discus (121 feet, 7 inches).

Pecatonica-Argyle's Nathan Loyd finished fourth in the 400 (53.29) and teammate Skylar Cragg took fourth in the triple jump (38-2).

The Redbirds' 400 relay team of Ethan Glendenning, Kyle Schulte, Cole Whalen and Cole Trumble took second (48.74). Schulte teamed with Dane Siegenthaler, Johnson and Storm Wiegel to finish second in the 800 relay (1:38.4).

Monroe's 1,600 relay team of Alex Koller, Jared Barenklau, Cody Faust and Derek Christiansen took third (3:44.67). Faust added a third-place finish in the high jump (5-10).

Darlington's Patrick Roche finished third in the pole vault (11-0).

In the girls' meet, Black Hawk junior Jen Wellnitz won the 200 (26.36) and triple jump (33-2). She added a second-place finish in the long jump (15-10).

Darlington senior Cassidy Chambers finished first in the pole vault (8-0) and second in the high jump (4-10). Shai Rowe took second in the pole vault (7-6), and Abigail Merriam was third in the high jump (4-10). Darlington's Kelsey Wiegel won the shot put (32-6 1/2) and Pec-Argyle's Cassidy Steiner was second (31-8 1/2).

Darlington senior Cheyenne Wolfe won the 3,200 (13:02.84) and Pec-Argyle's Samantha Erickson was second (13:16.28).

Albany's Chantel Rogers took second in the 300 hurdles (52.03) and Pecatonica-Argyle's Hannah Swenson was third in the 100 (13.21).

The Redbirds' 1,600 relay team of Carly Langkamp, Carly Reilly, Claire Scott and Alison Wedig won (4:12.25), which was about one second ahead of Dodgeville. In the 800 relay, Langkamp teamed with Rebecca Mathias, Wedig and Scott to win the race (1:53.19). Reilly also won the long jump (15-11 3/4).

The Redbirds' 3,200 relay team of Harley Douglas, Darby Fitzsimons, Wolfe and Tatum Evenstad took second (10:36.54) and Albany was third.

Chambers teamed with Scott, Reilly and Rowe to take second in the 400 relay (53.38).
