Jira lifts Fort over Monroe

MONROE - Fort Atkinson senior Brigette Jira scored four goals to power the Blackhawks to a 6-2 win over Monroe Thursday at Honey Creek Park.

Jira scored three goals in the first half to spark the Blackhawks to a 4-1 lead at the half.

With the loss, Monroe drops to 9-8-2, 2-4 Badger South.

Jira scored her first goal at 6:38 to give the Blackhawks a 2-0 lead. About seven minutes later, she scored her third goal for the hat trick.

Monroe freshman Olivia Werth scored a goal at 24:45 to put the Cheesemakers on the board.

Monroe freshman Sydney Mathiason scored a goal in the second half on an assist from freshman Brynn Ritschard at 71:19 to cut the Blackhawks' lead to 5-2.

Monroe will open up WIAA Division 3 regional play June 4. The backets and seedings have not been released by the WIAA as of Thursday night.
