MONROE - The Monroe boys basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Janesville Craig 48-47 in the season opener Tuesday.
"It's a work in progress," Monroe coach Pat Murphy said. "We just didn't get the stops. They executed their offense better than we did in the second half. Craig had an inside-outside game. They made the extra pass and hit a bunch of threes, and we had some bad rotations. We hung in there. We just came up a little short."
Monroe led by senior Logan Weckerly, who scored eight straight points in the second quarter, drilled a 3-pointer late in the period to give the Cheesemakers a 26-13 lead at halftime.
Monroe will host Beloit Memorial at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
