ARGYLE - Darlington junior Taylor Jacobson scored the game-winning shot with 13 seconds to go to lift the Redbirds to a thrilling 50-49 win on Monday.
Jacobson scored a game-high 21 points to pace the Redbirds. Argyle (0-2) had a chance to win the game, but senior Sarah Flannery's shot with 4 seconds to go rimmed out. The Orioles led by as many as eight points in the fourth quarter, but the Redbirds closed the game with a 12-1 run.
"We are a pretty young team this year learning to play with each other," Argyle coach Kurt Ritschard said. "We are working to gel. I think we took a big step against Darlington taking them down to the wire."
Argyle junior Kayla-Butler Paulson scored 21 points to lead the Orioles.
With the win, Darlington improves to 1-1. The Redbirds made 13 of 21 free throws compared to 14 of 25 for the Orioles.
