WHITEWATER - Monroe junior Jordan Hirsbrunner won the championship in the high jump clearing 5 feet, 4 inches at the Wisconsin TFA State Indoor Championships Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Hirsbrunner beat two-time defending state champion Brooke Blazei of Martin Luther High School in Greendale.

"Monroe has rarely had anyone win an event at this meet, so Jordan winning the high jump was truly something special," Monroe girls track coach Matt Davis said. The last time a Monroe athlete won an event in the TFA meet was in 2014 when Ethan Moehn won the 1,600-meters.

The Cheesemakers finished eighth as a team with 16 points out of a meet that included 46 Division 1, 2 and 3 teams competing against each other. Beloit Memorial captured the team title with 26 points just ahead of runner-up Green Bay Preble (23).

"It's been a long time since our girls have finished that high at this meet," Davis said.

The Cheesemakers' 800 relay team of senior Isabel Bazley, senior Abby Oudinot, freshman Cammi Ganshert and Hirsbrunner took fourth (1 minute, 50.337 seconds). The quartet set the indoor school record in the 800 relay by more than two seconds over the previous record (1:52.6) which was set in 1985.

"They were the top performing Division 2 team at the meet," Davis said. "All the others were Division 1. This relay continues to get better and will be a force to be reckoned with at the end of the year."

Hirsbrunner took eighth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.86).

"One of the positives we saw at this meet was that we were still competitive in many events with runners at this high of a level," Davis said. "I know this meet really showed some of our girls what it's going to take at conference and tournament time to score well and advance onward. Getting that experience and knowledge will only help our team as a whole."
