PLATTEVILLE - Monroe junior Jake Hirsbrunner set a personal best in the high jump clearing 6 feet, 5 inches to win the championship at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneer Invite Tuesday.
Hirsbrunner also won the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 7.85 seconds.
"That was just an outstanding jump," Monroe boys assistant track coach Ryan Dahmen said of Hirsbrunner's high jump performance. "As a team we performed very well. We had a nice opportunity for some kids to get going for the indoor season. We are very pleased with our performances."
Monroe sophomore Seth Calaway for the second straight year won the 55 dash with a time of 6.77 seconds.
Junior Ethan Moehn won the 1,600 with a time of 4:34.
"He was in control of the race from start to finish," Dahmen said.
Sugar River swept the top three spots in the 200. Kelvin Johnson won the race (:24.92) followed by Garrison Woods (:25.10) and Gabe Noyce (:25.22). Johnson also finished first in the 55 hurdles (:8.45).
Darlington junior Tyson Miehe won the 3,200 (9:49.41) ahead of runner-up Alexander Yeiser (10:30.42) of Sugar River and Sugar River's Tyler Gilbertson (11:06.77).
Monroe senior Alex Barenklau finished second in the 800 (2:07.99) and Payton Hoesly took second in the 400 (:54.44). Junior Blake Duffy finished second in the 55 high hurdles (:8.64) and senior A.J. Cifuentes took second in the 1,600 (4:50). Monroe junior Grant Keith finished third in the pole vault (11-0) and Mike Graham took third in the shot put (41-4). The Cheesemakers' 800 relay team of Kyle Olson, Calaway, Dakota Phillips and Decker Joynt took second (1:40.27).
McCoy took third in the 400 (:56.41) and Woods took third in the high jump (6-0) and long jump (19-6 1/4). Sugar River's Ethan Gassman took third in the triple jump (37-7). The Raiders took second in the 1,600 relay (3:45.68) and the Redbirds posted a second-place finish in the 3,200 relay (8:53.34).
In the girls meet, Monroe junior Georgie Myers tied for first in the high jump (4-10). Monroe junior Tre Voegeli took first in the pole vault (9-0).
Sugar River senior Madeline Brunner won the 800 (2:27.36) and Darlington senior Claire Scott took third (2:41.61). Sugar River senior Alexis Hanson finished second in the 55 (:7.73) and 200 (:28.41). Hanson finished 0.06 seconds ahead of Monroe junior Lauren Werth, who took finished third in the 55 (:7.79).
Darlington's Alison Wedig won the 400 with a time of 1:03.41. Darlington senior Tatum Evenstad finished second in the 1,600 (5:58.7) and Monroe's Kayla Einbeck was fourth (6:03.81). Darlington senior Cheyenne Wolfe took second in the 3,200 (13:22.72) and Sugar River's Sam Barr was third (13:33.70).
