DUBUQUE - Monroe junior Jordan Hirsbrunner cleared 5 feet, 4 inches to win the high jump and break her previous record of 5-3 at the University of Dubuque Classic on Friday.
It marks the third straight year that Hirsbrunner has won the title in the high jump at the invitational. Hirsbrunner finished second in the 400 with a time of 1 minute, 1.51 seconds and was named the meet MVP for the second straight year.
"Overall, this was a great meet for us," Monroe girls track coach Matt Davis said. "I saw a lot of positives tonight. We have work to do, but I'm optimistic that this year will be better than last year. The teams we were up against were mostly large Iowa and Illinois schools that started track two to three weeks ahead of us. That's a huge advantage over us, but we held our own."
Monroe junior Josie Eberle won the pole vault (7-6). Senior Abby Oudinot took second in the long jump (15-8 1/2). Freshman Cammi Ganshert finished fourth in the 55-meter dash (7.63 seconds).
"She is a rocket and will add some needed firepower to our team," Davis said. "We're excited to see what this year will hold for her."
The Cheesemakers' 800 relay team of Isabel Bazley, Eberle, Oudinot and Ganshert took fourth (1:52.33).
