MCFARLAND - Monroe High School senior Jordan Hirsbrunner had a night on the track she will never forget at the WIAA Division 2 McFarland sectional on Thursday.

Hirsbrunner won sectional titles in three individual events - the 100-meter hurdles (15.08 seconds), the 300 hurdles (44.52) and high jump (5 feet, 4 inches). Hirsbrunner also ran the anchor leg for the Cheesemakers' sectional-winning 1,600 relay.

Her dominant effort helped the Cheesemakers win the sectional championship as a team by rolling up 70 points to win the 32-team sectional over runner-up Jefferson (57).

Monroe will send seven total events to state - five individual events and two relays.

"I'm very proud of the girls," Monroe girls track coach Matt Davis said. "They came out and competed well. They came out and really wanted it. The girls weren't satisfied to be top four. They wanted to be top two."

The top four finishers in each event qualify for the WIAA Division 2 state meet June 2-3 at Veterans Memorial Stadium at the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse.

Hirsbrunner has now won nine sectional titles in her career, including three straight in the high jump and two straight in the 300 hurdles.

Davis said having Hirsbrunner winning a sectional title in the high jump set the tone.

"Jordan had a great meet," Davis said. "Jordan scored a big chunk of the points. She gets a fair amount of credit for helping us win a sectional championship as a team. A lot of other girls really stepped up, and we earned it."

The team of junior Sydney Mathiason, sophomore Cammi Ganshert, junior Rachel Meier and Hirsbrunner won the 1,600 relay in 4 minutes, 5 seconds, which was 0.52 seconds ahead of runner-up Madison Edgewood.

"They really got after them and took it," Davis said. "It was their second fastest time of the year. It was their focus and determination."

Senior Josie Eberle took third in the pole vault after matching her personal best of 10-3. Eberle is making her second straight trip to state in the event.

"Josie wanted it really bad and she just missed 10-6," Davis said. "Hopefully, she can perform well and get a PR at the state meet."

Eberle teamed with freshman Cassi Gersbach, senior Casey Rielly and Ganshert to finish second in the 400 relay (50.15), which was just behind sectional champion Edgerton (49.37).

"I really hoped they could make it to state," Davis said of the Cheesemakers' 400 relay. "They have exceeded my expectations for the time they could run. It's the third fastest time in the history of Monroe. I'm hoping we can only drop time from here."

Ganshert finished third in the 100-meter dash (12.65).

Monroe freshman Cassi Gersbach placed fifth in the 300 hurdles (47.81) and to miss a state berth by one place. Monroe senior Lexus Trickel placed fifth in the long jump (16-0) and just missed qualifying for state by a quarter inch.

Sugar River finished 10th as a team (29) and Brodhead-Juda took 16th (22) at the sectional.

Brodhead-Juda junior Madee Harding qualified for state in two events. Harding took second in the 400 (58.68) and fourth in the 200 (26.38). Junior teammate Cora Purdue took third in the 800 (2:21.51).

Sugar River senior Noelle Marie qualified for state in both the 1,600 and 3,200. Marie finished second in the 3,200 (11:18.71) and took third in the 1,600 (5:11.19). Senior Krista Diaz took third in the 100 hurdles (15.37) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (47.52).
