GREENSBORO, N.C. - Monroe's Jordan Hirsbrunner placed fourth in the heptathlon over the weekend at the New Balance National Outdoor Track and Field Championships and therefore was named a National High School All-American.
The seven events of the heptathlon are contested over two days. The 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 dash were held on Friday and then the long jump, javelin and 800 were Saturday.
Kaitlyn Kirby of Palm Harbor, Florida, won the event.
The meet was held at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro. All participants had to meet a qualifying performance standard in order to be invited.
Hirsbrunner captured three WIAA state track and field championships during her Monroe High School career. She is a seven-time state medalist and 11-time state qualifier. She will be attending the Unversity of Wisconsin in the fall to pursue a degree in kinesiology and continue her track and field career.
