MONROE - The honors keep rolling in for Monroe junior point guard Sydney Hilliard.
Hilliard was one of three players to be named unanimous Wisconsin Basketball Coaches All-State Division 2 team on Monday. Hilliard, a recruit for nine NCAA Division 1 schools, helped lead the Cheesemakers to their second straight state trip to the Resch Center.
Hilliard averaged 22.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.7 steals per game for a team that finished the season 24-3. It's the second straight year Hilliard has been named first-team all-state. The other unanimous Division 2 WBCA all-state selections were Monona Grove junior McKenna Warnock and senior Savanna Crockett of Milwaukee Vincent.
Warnock finished fourth in the state in scoring at 28.5 ppg, to go along with 12.9 rebounds. Beaver Dam junior Tara Stauffacher, a Wisconsin recruit, and New Berlin junior Julia Hintz were also named to the WBCA all-state team. Beaver Dam freshman Maty Wilke was named honorable mention all-state.
Black Hawk sophomore Natalie Leuzinger and freshman Bailey Butler both were named to the WBCA all-state Division 5 team. It marks the second straight year Leuzinger has received the honor. Leuzinger, who averaged 16.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.7 steals per game, and Butler helped lead the Warriors to a WIAA Division 5 state runner-up finish. The sophomore shot a team-best 42.6 percent from the 3-point line.
Butler (15.5 ppg, 3.7 assists and 4.1 steals per game) was a catalyst in helping Black Hawk get back to state for the first time since 2011. The Warriors finished the season 28-1 and were ranked No. 1 all season. Bangor defeated Black Hawk 39-29 in the state championship and the Warriors brought home the silver ball.
Shullsburg senior Brianna Leahy was a repeat pick from 2017 after averaging 14.7 points and 13.4 rebounds per game this season and leading her team to the sectional final where the Miners lost to eventual state champion Bangor. Leahy has committed to play at UW-River Falls next season.
Emma Lawrence, a Benton senior and the school's all-time leading scorer for both the boys and girls programs, averaged 20.4 points per game this season for the Zephyrs and was honorable mention.
The other WBCA all-state first-teamers in Division 5 include Bangor senior Emma Wittemershaus, a UW-Milwaukee recruit, and Newman Catholic senior Signe Fronek.
In Division 3, Brodhead senior Erin Nyhus was named honorable mention WBCA all-state. Nyhus averaged 20.4 points per game and became the all-time leading scorer in Brodhead girls history. She will play for UW-Stevens Point next season.
Madison Edgewood senior Caitlin Link was named first-team WBCA all-state as was Wisconsin Dells senior Jenna Mace and Marshall freshman Mia Morel.
The other Division 3 honorable mention all-state selections from the area include Madison Edgewood freshman Ella Foti and Platteville sophomore Sami Martin.
Darlington junior Kaylee Meyers and Cambridge senior Joriann Clary both received honorable mention all-state honors in Division 4. Meyers averaged 17.8 points per game, leading the Redbirds to the SWAL title and a regional title.
