ARGYLE - Pecatonica-Argyle senior quarterback Logan Green threw four touchdowns to help the Vikings roll to a 50-0 win over Benton-Scales Mound on Argyle's homecoming on Saturday.
Green completed 6 of 9 passes for 85 yards. He also came up with an interception and pitched it back to senior A.J. Hendrickson who returned it 23 yards for a touchdown late in the second quarter.
Pecatonica-Argyle (8-0, 7-0 Six Rivers) clinched at least a share of the conference title for the second straight year. If Pecatonica-Argyle can defeat Shullsburg Friday in the regular-season finale in Blanchardville, the Vikings would win the conference title outright.
"It's something the kids have worked hard for," Pecatonica-Argyle coach Larry Green said. "They have bought into what we are doing. They have the opportunity to control their own destiny. It's up to the kids how they come out and play."
Hendrickson had three receptions for 52 yards and two touchdowns. Green hooked up with Hendrickson on a 17-yard TD pass in the first quarter. After a fumbled snap on the extra point try, Green tossed a pass to Brent Ritschard to give the Vikings an 8-0 lead. Green then connected with Hendrickson on a 26-yard TD pass in the second quarter to extend the Vikings' lead to 15-0. It was a big second quarter for the Vikings as they scored 35 points.
Pecatonica-Argyle junior Evan Prust returned a punt 40 yards for a touchdown. Prust also scored on a 9-yard run in the second quarter to give the Vikings a 29-0 lead. Green tossed a 24-yard TD strike to senior Collin Argue late in the second quarter to give the Vikings a 43-0 lead at the half.
Argue rushed for 72 yards on 10 carries and scored one touchdown receiving.
Senior Kyle Pierson had a 34-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Pierson rushed for 63 yards on three carries.
"When you can score on special teams and defense that takes the pressure off the offense," Green said. "We have some playmakers who can do that."
