MADISON - Monroe senior Traiten Gorr took second place at the WIAA Division 2 state wrestling tournament Saturday at the Kohl Center.

Dodgeville senior Brady Wetter, a University of Wisconsin-Madison wrestling recruit at 220 pounds, pinned Gorr in 3 minutes, 33 seconds in the Division 2 state championship match.

Gorr is a two-time state qualifier. After taking fourth at state last year, he set a new bar. Gorr finished the season 42-3 with the second most wins in the history of Monroe's wrestling program (139).

"It feels really good to say I made it to the state finals one year in my career," Gorr said. "It was kind of a bummer to lose my final career high school match. It feels really good to improve on last year. It feels really good to finish ahead of the guys who finished ahead of me last year."

It marked the third time this year that Wetter has defeated Gorr.

"He was really good at defending what I was working for," Gorr said. "He got that takedown and near fall and that put me behind."

Gorr is honored to finish as the second most winningest wrestler at Monroe High School.

"It feels good to break a record and look back and say I won a lot of matches in my high school career," he said.

Gorr plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Platteville next year to major in industrial technology management.

"For Traiten to come in and do what he did to make the finals and finish ahead of all the kids who finished ahead of him last year was a big accomplishment," Monroe coach Tom Witt said.
