BARABOO - Monroe sophomore Traiten Gorr finished third place at the Badger Conference wrestling tournament Saturday, Feb. 8.
Gorr, at 182 pounds, was the only Cheesemaker wrestler to finish in the top three.
"He (Gorr) had a really good day," Monroe coach Tom Witt said. "He's strung some wins together. He's peaking at the right time. He's taken a step in the right direction."
Sauk Prairie, ranked No. 4 in Division 1, ran away with the team title 331.5-287 over seventh-ranked Milton. Monroe finished last at the 12-team conference tournament.
The three other wrestlers that placed for the Cheesemakers include freshman Cole Murray (126) who finished sixth place, freshman David Andrews (106) who took eighth place and senior Austin Minder (195) took eighth.
Gorr defeated Stoughton's Austin Benton 5-3 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, he lost to Fort Atkinson's Brady Hansen 11-4. Gorr pinned Portage's David Rusher in 5 minutes in a consolation match. He then controlled a third-place match and knocked off Benton 5-2.

He lost a nail-biter to Portage's David Gunderson 3-2 and pulled out a 3-1 win over DeForest's Kevin Kauls in overtime.
"He knew it would be a tough day," Witt said of Minder. "He's a move in each match away from winning and wrestling for third or being in the finals. That is how close they all were."
Murray avenged a 4-1 loss earlier this year to Fort Atkinson's Tony Smith. Murray defeated Smith 9-6 in a consolation match. Murray took sixth and was seeded seventh.
"That was a huge win for him and propelled him to the top six," Witt said. "He did better than his seed which is always the goal."
