SPRING GREEN - The Monroe golf team rebounded from a shaky start on the back nine to finish fourth in the Badger South and fifth overall at the Badger Conference tournament Wednesday at House on the Rock in Spring Green.

Madison Edgewood won the Badger South title, shooting a 314 and tying Badger North champion Reedsburg for first overall. McFarland and Oregon tied for second in the Badger South with a 323, just four strokes ahead of the fourth-place Cheesemakers (327).

"There are a lot of ways to get into trouble," Monroe coach Jeriamy Jackson said. "It's a very challenging course. There are a lot of risk-reward holes that sucker you into going for it."

Aaaron Krattiger and Gary Petit led the Cheesemakers each with an 81. Brandon Wilson shot an 82 and Mitch McArdle rounded out the top four scores with an 83.

McArdle shot a 47 on the back nine and rallied for a 36 on the front.

"To come back after shooting such a higher score, that shows a lot of heart by those guys," Jackson said.

The Cheesemakers host a WIAA Division 2 golf regional at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 20 at the Monroe Country Club.
