Gloves fail Pec in loss to Potosi

BLANCHARDVILLE - Potosi rocked Pecatonica's pitching from the start, with the Vikings showing holes in the field to boot.

Pecatonica had nine errors in a 20-4, five-inning loss Friday.

"Our inexperience showed," Vikings head coach Jim Strommen said. "When it rains it pours."

Pecatonica is without senior Devin Jeglum, who is battling a tear in his groin and is out indefinitely.

"Losing an all-conference caliber player like that, it really deflated the team," Strommen said.

Potosi had two big innings against the Vikings, pouring in seven runs in the third and nine runs in the fourth.

"It wasn't pretty," Strommen said.

Sophomore Matt Goldthorpe went three innings on the hill before being relieved. Goldthorpe allowed 10 runs, just one of which was earned. Nate Borcherding pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing nine runs and Tannar Johnson finished the final 1 1/3, limiting the damage.

Pecatonica had just five hits in the ball game, with Tanner Kleppe and Taylor Berg hitting doubles.

The Darlington baseball team's game against Boscobel has been changed. Instead of playing Boscobel Friday, as was originally scheduled, the Redbirds will play the Bulldogs in a doubleheader Tuesday, May 11 at Boscobel. Darlington is off to a 4-0 start and is in a first place tie with Boscobel in the SWAL at 2-0.
