On Sunday, Jan. 24, the U12 Girls Avalanche Team traveled to Sun Prairie in a rematch with the DC Diamonds U10 A team. Monroe skated well, but lost the game, 7-4.
Monroe girls scored their first goals of the year. Emma Ness scored twice, and Molly Gross and Cammi Ganshert each had one. Molly Gross added two assists while Tessa Janecke had one. Jenna Schmerbach had 14 saves in goal.
The girls will play again at 8 a.m. Saturday at SLICE against the Janesville Fury U12 team.
Squirts skate to tie, loss
The Monroe Youth Hockey Squirts (9- and 10-year-olds) skated to a 6-6 tie at Sauk Prairie Saturday, Jan. 23. The two teams were never more than a goal apart in the evenly matched contest.
Tyler Johnson scored five goals for Monroe on assists from Kobe Manor, Jamaar Manor and Emerson Deininger. Trenten Prien scored Monroe's remaining goal, unassisted. Goalie Jacob Ritschard recorded 21 saves.
The Avalanche Squirts returned to Monroe for a Sunday game at SLICE against Middleton, but lost, 4-1. Middleton jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period, but Monroe picked up the pace over the final two periods, matching the visitors' remaining goal with one of their own.
Johnson scored Monroe's lone goal on an assist from Connor Nafzger. Kobe Manor had 20 saves in goal.
Monroe Mite B and Mite A results
On Saturday, Jan. 23, the Avalanche Mite B team played at home against Sun Prairie Mite B team and tied, 2-2.
Tessa Janecke and Payton Stauffacher each had a goal for the Avalanche. Anika Einbeck had six saves in the contest.
On Sunday, Jan. 24, the Mite B team played Middleton C in Monroe. The Avalanche lost the game, 6-2.
Payton Stauffacher had a goal and Rob Schroeder of Albany had his first goal of the season. Blake Steinmann and Haley Knauf each had their first assists as well. Anika Einbeck had 14 saves in the net.
The Mite A team skated at home Saturday, Jan. 23, against the West Madison Polar Caps B team. Monroe won the game 9-3.
Emma Ness leading the scoring with six goals while Cade Janecke had three scores and an assist. Joe Wyss had an assist in the game and Heath Bear had 17 saves in the victory.
The next day, the Mite A team finished its home stand with a victory against Janesville Mite A, 5-2.

This weekend the Mite A team will travel to Oregon Saturday and to Madison Sunday, while the B team will travel to Middleton Sunday.
