MONROE - The pole vaulters on the Monroe girls track team lifted the Cheesemakers to a 76-70 Badger South Conference dual meet win over Stoughton on Tuesday night.
The Cheesemakers swept the top three spots in the pole vault with senior Meaghan Tomasiewicz winning the event with a vault of 10 feet. Britney Johnson finished second and Maria Eberle took third.
"Our girls know our dual meets on Tuesdays are more important than anything else we do," Monroe girls track coach Curt Miller said. "They feel that way and so do I. We needed two of them to do it, and all three took care of business."
Monroe junior Stephanie Wyss had a stellar meet as she won the 200 (28 seconds), 400 (1 minute, 2.06 seconds), and she tied Tomasiewicz to win the pole vault with a jump of 4 feet, 8 inches.
"It was kind of hard, because the bar kept falling down," Wyss said. "It gave me a little push to jump. I would like to get faster and stronger each meet."
Miller didn't expect the gusty conditions to be a factor.
"We don't ever worry about the weather," Miller said. "Our girls get excited to compete in crappy weather, because we know we can compete in it."
Wyss, who battled an injury throughout the cross country season, looks to be in mid-season form, he said.
"She can run no matter what the weather conditions are," Miller said. "It's tough to tone her back. She wants to run fast all the time. That's the way she is made."
Monroe received a big boost from its 400 relay team which finished first. The Cheesemakers' 400 relay team of Brenna Bazley, Eberle, Ty Gibson and Jaclyn Ditter finished with a time of 53.28 seconds.
"That was a big one for us," Miller said. "We had to win that one."
